Michael-Jon represents both company clients and individuals, covering all aspects of employment law, from disciplinary issues to subject access requests under data protections legislation. He routinely negotiates on high value and complex senior executive exits for both employers and employees, including those involving equity incentives such as share options and U.S. restricted stock units.

He advises on the terms of contracts of employment, service agreements and staff handbooks and consultancy agreements for self-employed contractors. MJ also regularly acts in asset sales for SME clients, advising on their TUPE obligations in relation to staff consultation, and assisting in the drafting of indemnities and settlement agreements.

He also writes for the press and gives training on topics such as the law related to agency workers, data protection (GDPR) and the transfer of employees upon a business sale (TUPE).

Michael-Jon qualified in 2003 and is an experienced litigator with extensive experience at  leading international City firms. A specialist in employment law, he has wide litigation expertise, having begun his career in property and general commercial litigation.

MJ completed his Batchelor of Laws (LLB), Law with European Legal Studies at the University of Westminster. He is a French speaker and also attended The University of Paris X.

With extensive experience of Employment Tribunal claims, MJ has successfully advised companies and employees on post termination restrictions. He was involved in what is still regarded as the leading case on the enforceability of clauses in contracts of employment to prevent former employees from working with a competing business for 12 months after they leave (Thomas v Farr & Ors [2007] EWCA Civ 118).

MJ was also instrumental in obtaining a High Court injunction for a well known London estate agent, preventing former employees from misusing a stolen database of landlords to further their own new competing business.

MJ is a rugby enthusiast and current Chairman of The Old Wimbledonians Association RFC, where he also coaches the U13 team.
