Merton Giving: our charity for 2020

Find out more about our charity of the year and how Merton Giving is working in our community.

Being part of our community has always been a big part of the Peacock & Co ethos. You may have seen us lend support to school fairs, sports tours and events such as Wimbledon Bookfest or the Love Me Love My Mind Christmas Concert in Epsom. This year we were delighted to take our community support a step further and announce Merton Giving as our inaugural charity to support throughout 2020.

Launched in 2018, Merton Giving is part of a growing movement helping to address inequality across London. Facilitated through Merton Chamber of Commerce and Merton Voluntary Services Council, it has provided grants to groups and organisations working at the heart of our community – including bereavement support, children’s groups and the vulnerable. Importantly, it also helps businesses connect with local giving.

Last December we were delighted to launch our involvement with Merton Giving for their Merton Giving Week, kick-starting our fundraising with £2,200 raised from will-writing in exchange for donations. (We will be offering the same service for Merton Giving Week (30 Nov – 6 Dec 2020) – please contact our Private Client team for more information and to make an appointment.)

Sadly, our planned Merton Giving Pub Quiz, in partnership with Gem & Co financial services, coincided with the rising coronavirus pandemic in March and lockdown meant we had to put our plans on hold – for now.

But during the troubling and uncertain time that ensued, Merton Giving was able to really show its mettle, quickly responding to urgent local need by launching the Merton Giving Coronavirus fund, providing immediate funding grants to organisations such as Jigsaw4u, supporting children and young people, the Don’s Local Action Group (providing food parcels and IT equipment to the digitally excluded throughout the pandemic) and Black Learning Achievement and Mental Health UK (BLAM). As of July 2020, £170,730 has been awarded across 64 organisations, making a profound impact to grassroots groups and charities in our community.

We are so proud of all that Merton Giving has achieved in its first two years and hope to be part of its continuing story.

Looking ahead to 2021, when Peacock & Co will be celebrating its thirtieth birthday year, we will be lending our support to a charitable organisation in the locality of our Epsom office. For more details and submissions, please contact us – we would love to hear from you.
